What is it?
Rigid Foam Board insulation offers significant protection from thermal bridging, the transfer or loss of heat through the framing of your home. It is installed underneath the siding of your home and completely envelopes the wall assemblies inside.
Rigid Foam Board insulation come in 3 options:
- Expanded polystyrene – Lowest level R value per inch. Commonly used in basements and crawl spaces or where vapour barrier isn’t warranted.
- Extruded polystyrene – Middle level R value per inch. Commonly used on exterior applications where a vapour barrier is needed.
- Polyisocyanurate – Highest level R value per inch. Commonly used on exterior applications where a more resistant vapour barrier is needed.
Why do it?
While the wall or ceiling cavity might be insulated to the proper R-value, thermal bridging can significantly reduce the effective R value of your home. By installing Rigid Foam Board you can minimize the overall heat loss, helping to save you money on your bills for years to come.
