Transforming Homes in Dartmouth
In summer 2023, MJM Energy performed a deep energy retrofit on a duplex home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This home required a full teardown of the home’s drywall and insulation. Once the finish was safely removed from the property, the thin fiberglass batt insulation was also removed from the wall cavities as there were significant gaps where heat could escape. Spray foam insulation was installed in the wall cavities which then expanded to fill all tiny gaps and tight corners, as seen in the right image below.
How Spray Foam Works
Spray foam is applied by spraying two compounds together that react, creating a foam that expands to fill every gap and prevents warm air from escaping. Spray foam also helps to muffle sounds and repel moisture.
